Bearman Foundation Chair in Entrepreneurship

The Bearman Foundation Chair in Entrepreneurship was established by the Herbert Bearman Foundation to provide faculty support in the area of entrepreneurship and may be awarded to a faculty member in any of our colleges or schools.

This chair is a three year appointment that acknowledges and honors the contributions of Dr. Arlene Bearman to the UMBC community through its recognition and support of outstanding teaching skills, an interest in entrepreneurship and a strong record of scholarship in entrepreneurial studies or a related field. The Chair was established with a gift endowment of $800,000 that generates approximately $40,000 annually in support of the chair holder’s work.

Nominations are solicited every three years during the fall semester.

Nomination letters should include a brief overview of the candidate’s teaching and research accomplishments and a description of the candidate’s interest in entrepreneurship and/or social entrepreneurship and innovation. This interest can include (but is not necessarily limited to): technology development and commercialization; venture creation (for profit and/or non-profit); innovative teaching and learning/curriculum development in this domain; research or creative achievement. Nominations should also include a description of what the nominee would propose to accomplish as the Bearman Foundation Chair in Entrepreneurship.
