Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (HERC)

UMBC is proud to be a founding member of the Mid-Atlantic Higher Education Recruitment Consortium.

The Higher Education Recruitment Consortium (HERC) is a non-profit coalition of over 700 colleges, universities, hospitals, research labs, government agencies, and related non- and for-profit organizations, committed to diversifying the pipeline of faculty, staff, and executives in academia. HERC supports  member institutions in recruiting and retaining outstanding and diverse employees.

HERC believes that inclusive, equitable hiring and retention practices are not only the right thing to do, but essential to achieving the academic missions of HERC’s member institutions. Educating people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and cultures takes a diverse academic workforce. HERC particularly understands the acute need to remove barriers to the recruitment, retention, and advancement of talented faculty and staff from historically excluded populations who are currently underrepresented in higher education.
