Overview
The Promotion to Full Program Program is a cohort-based faculty development opportunity designed to support associate professors as they intentionally plan for professional growth and advancement to full professor within the next two to three years. Through monthly workshops, peer consultation, individualized planning, and protected time for scholarly and professional work, participants will engage in focused planning and development to support that goal.
What Participants Will Gain
Through this program, faculty participants will:
- Assess their progress and professional goals since being promoted to associate professor with tenure.
- Develop or refine an individualized professional development plan.
- Identify priorities and milestones for the next two to three years.
- Explore strategies for mentorship, sponsorship, service and leadership, and professional visibility.
- Strengthen the ways in which they articulate the impact of their work.
- Build connections with faculty colleagues across UMBC.
- Dedicate weekly protected time for scholarship, creative activity, and other work related to their professional advancement.
Who Should Participate
This program is designed for associate professors with tenure who are interested in becoming more intentional about their professional development and path toward promotion to full professor. Participants are nominated by their dean’s office and invited to join the cohort.
Program Structure
Monthly In-Person Workshops
One Friday each month, 9:00–11:30 a.m.
Coffee and refreshments beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Fall 2026: September 4 | October 2 | November 6
Spring 2027: February 5 | March 5
Faculty Advancement Workshop: Promotion to Full Professor
Tuesday, April 13, 2:00–3:30 p.m. in UC 310
Protected Time
Fridays, 9:00–11:30 a.m.
On Fridays when a workshop is not scheduled, participants will gather in person for focused, independent work related to their advancement.
