Faculty Advancement Workshops support tenure-track/tenured faculty and teaching faculty as they prepare for advancement to the next rank. This series provides an institutional overview of the processes, general expectations, and timelines, which complements the guidance faculty receive within their respective colleges and departments.
Research, clinical, and adjunct faculty should review the Faculty Handbook and consult with their department regarding appointment policies and development resources.

What to Expect
Workshops typically include:
- A process overview (timelines, dossier materials, sequence of review, and common questions)
- Perspectives from campus academic leadership (e.g., deans/associate deans, vice provost for faculty affairs)
- A faculty panel featuring recently promoted/tenured faculty sharing practical insights
- Time for live Q & A
Note: Workshops focus on the university-wide process and do not provide college- or department-specific advising. Faculty should consult their department chair and associate dean for faculty regarding local standards and expectations.
Slides and Recording
Slides will be shared via Box (UMBC login required) and posted on this page after each session. To support candid conversations, workshops are not recorded.
