Provost’s Chair Development Initiative

Background

Launched in 2018, in partnership with the Dean’s Offices, Human Resources, and current Chairs/Directors, the Provost’s Chair Development Initiative uses a cohort model to provide support and resources to be more effective leaders in their role as chairs/directors. 

The Provost’s Chair Development Initiative is one piece of a larger campus-wide initiatives to support Chairs/Directors: 

  • Dean’s Activities and Support for Chairs/Directors  
  • Professional Society Supports for Chairs and Directors (CCAS, ASEE, etc.) 

Activities

Activities are driven by needs of Cohort and focus on institutional (i.e., non-college specific topics). Past activities have included:

  • Conflict Resolution Workshop Series with Sally Klingel, Director of labor-management relations programming for the Scheinman Institute at Cornell University
  • A Conversation with UMBC Legal
  • Strategic Planning: A Conversation with the Provost
  • Budgeting from an Academic Affairs Perspective: A Conversation with the Provost
